Earlier this summer you got to spend two weeks with Mimi and the Bears. What a fantastic time that was! My biggest source of regret and sleepless nights is that you don’t live closer to your family. You are Mia are a hoot together. Case in point: You’d been together less than 24 hours before you put on a wedding that clearly upstaged Will and Kate! You spent the whole two weeks laughing (love Mia’s dirty little laugh) and playing non-stop. You had a fabulous time in New York, running around Central Park, and perhaps an even better time on the train hiding in the luggage racks and just generally being mental! We got to spend lots of Mummy-Ana time this summer. Sensing that the days where you just love spending time with me are numbered I was thrilled to do a ton of fun stuff together this summer. We spent many days at Six Flags water park, which was just amazing. You and water… what can I say? I’d call you a fish, but I think you prefer to go by mermaid. You and Cami spent a lot of time at Spec Pond, splashing about in the lake, doing handstands and swimming after the bass, and of course a lot of time in your pool. You really came on with your swimming lessons this year. You went from being afraid to put your head under the water to being an accomplished underwater swimmer. You also learned to jump in without holding your nose and now you are fearless. You had a little crush on your swimming teacher, Eric, so that helped! You were willing to do whatever he asked This year you competed in, and WON, your first triathlon. I could not have been more proud! WooHoo!
You took a year of Irish Dance, which of course you were good at, but praise the Lord you don’t want to do it again this year! I’m not sure I could have coped with watching those dance shows again. We’ll get you in a cooler dance class this year. You played soccer too. Now I am all about bragging on your amazing talents, but soccer is not one of them! You did better than the Covington Under 4’s fiasco, but you are no Mia Hamm. I think you are just there to socialize. You are actually happier when you get left on the bench, so you can chat to your friends. I think individual sports are far more your thing. This year we watched the Olympics, and you decided you are going to enter the diving, swimming, triathlon, rhythmic gymnastics, and running races. Oh, and you are also going to be a pop star who performs at the closing ceremony! You are very concerned that you be permitted to do both. I told you to go for it, why not?
You did really well in Kindergarten. You excelled academically and socially. The difference in you from first day of school to last was astonishing. While I was not that happy that you started greeting me with an eye roll rather than a running hug when I picked you up, I suppose it is a good sign that you are having such a great time. You are straddling the line between big girl and little girl. You want to do everything yourself, but you come running to us when you are hurt. You tell me to get out of your room, and then sneak into my bed at night to sleep with me. I’m so proud watching you exert your independence out there in the big world, but I LOVE those sweet times together when I remember you are still just a little kid.
I really cannot express how much fun I have with you every day. You are a joy to be around on our little adventures or just hanging out at home. You are funny, smart, and sweet. I never know what you are going to say next! I think I say this every year but I really wish I could freeze time. I wish you would be six forever. Is that too much to ask?
Happy birthday my sweet girl. I love you more than you will ever know.
Can’t wait for all the fun we will have this year. Love Mum x
