Random updates

The questions begin. Ana is talking really well now, with lots of sentences. She has started asking questions allllll the time. "What's that mummy?" is probably her favourite question to ask. James has moire fun with it that I do. I stop and point things out "ohhh, well that is a leaf, can you say leaf?" whereas James will say something like "oh, that is where the monsters live who eat naughty girls". Fortunately she can't understand him (I think).

Seperation anxiety. Ana is very distressed when the 'family unit' is separated. It used to be that if she was with either one of us she was happy, now it has to be both of us or she will panic. If James is not with us she will say "where'd daddy go?" over and over and over. She'll also ask where Brisoce is. She yells at the top of her voice "Briscoe, where are you??". She must say it 50 times a day! She even asks where the cats are, which is more than we do. It makes things tough because we usually trade off so the other gets some free time, but that is almost undoable now because she freaks out the entire time. I'm regretting booking my trip to England in August now because she'll be beside herself for a whole week. It will be hard on me, but much harder on James I suspect.... (evil laugh)

James. Ana has started calling James, "James" instead of daddy. She must get it from imitating me (which she does a lot). She says "James, wake up" a lot, which confirms the theory. She also imitates the way I call Briscoe. We will be out somewhere like a park and she will yell "Briscoe, come 'ere" in a very British accent. It is adorable. Well, not for Briscoe who now gets yelled at by multiple humans, but for the rest of us.

Roadtrip. We went to Tallahassee last weekend. Ana was unbelievably good in the car. She didn't whine or complain about being stuck in her car seat for 5 plus hours. Wow!

Reckless. Ana will climb on anything! She is going to give me a heart attack! We also discovered this weekend that she is not opposed to jumping into the deep end of a pool either.

Science experiment

Ana tries Fergus' pre-school science experiment and reports corroborating findings!

You know you live in Georgia when....

....you see this sign on a bathroom stall. Sigh!

Oh such a perfect day....

Oh my goodness, today was amazing. I got to spend the whole day with my wonderful little girl! James is away visiting his mum in Florida. Ana has been such a cranky pants lately that I was dreading this. I thought I’d be tearing my hair out but, praise the Lord, she has been perfect so far!

We woke up early and headed to the Yellow River Game Ranch. I will call this part of the day “When (petting zoo) animals attack”. Holy cow! We were the first people there and I guess the animals were pumped up and ready to be fed because we stepped right in to a herd of frenzied deer. Kind of ruins the mystique of getting up close and personal with a “wild” animal when he has his nose in your handbag!

Next we got pestered to death by belligerent chickens, turkeys and ducks. Mel will be so proud of me, because I had to kick a featherless chicken that was being far too aggressive with Ana. Ughh!

These poor ducks didn’t realize that “share” is not part of a toddler’s repertoire. Ha!

Here’s Ana admiring a duckling

And chasing bunnies!

The sheep were a pretty big hit. We got to watch some sheep getting sheered. Ana got asked to come up front and help sheer a sheep. To my surprise she boldly stepped right up on the stage….then realized what she had done, freaked out and descended into a screaming meltdown of terror. I guess she just wanted to be sure she had a good audience for her performance!

After the petting zoo we headed home and took a nap together. Ahhhh!

We went out for dinner and Ana sat opposite me like a big girl. She very carefully picked up her chicken nuggets (hey featherless chicken, karma is a bitch) and when she announced that they were too hot we blew on them together. In between bites she daintily cleaned her palate before sipping her apple juice, smiling at me the whole time! It was SO adorable. We even had a cute “you take it”, “no you take it” exchange over the last nugget. Finally, she got a napkin and wiped the table clean when we were finished. Who is this child?? I think she must have sensed that I was ready to give her away after last week’s theatrics!

I’ll gloss over the drama that unfolded while trying to get her into pyjamas, and just attribute it to a tired little girl who had a very full day!

Toddler, thy name is drama!

Jesus Christ – Ana has been a nightmare this week! You know that sweet girl who counts and sings in the bath? Well, this is how bath time has been all week.

In fact this is how mealtime, playtime, and nighttime has been too. She’s pretty much been like this 90% of the time we are with her, and we cannot console her. I think it is because her eye teeth and molars are coming in. Last night she stood in a corner facing the wall and SCREAMED at the top of her lungs for AN HOUR! Yikes!!

Wedges

So, the sparkley princess shoes are SO last month....this month Ana is all about the wedges! I think she would sleep in these things if she could! She looks so proud when she is wearing them. She calls them her "wegees"

Counting!

Ok, so she misses 8 and 10, but I'll let it slide just this once!

No, no, no, no, no, no

....is what I hear all day long. Everything is "No mummy" (said harshly). She also shuts doors in my face and says "stop it" or "go away". I thought I had to wait until she turned 14 for that!

Luckily for her she is very cute!

Here is a mild example of what I'm talking about. Note the absence of shreaking and slapping, so this was a good day. If you are curious why her car seat is in the living room it is because she threw such a fit about not wanting to get out of the car that James just unhooked the seat and carried her in!

I was overjoyed to get a "Yes" out of her in the bath tonight!
